Mark Twain Riverboat
Mark Twain Riverboat

The Riverboat was the third in the
Robert Olszewski Commemorative
Edition. The premiere date for this
sculpture was February 18th 2006. The
miniature retails for $210.00 at the
Disneyana, Disney Gallery, The World
of Disney and Off The Page, at Disney's
California Adventure.

The Mark Twain is another 1955
original. The hull of the ship was built at
Todd Shipyard in San Pedro, CA. The
decks of the ship were assembled at the
Disney Studios in Burbank and were
brought down the Santa Ana freeway
one by one. Being assembled at
Fowler's Harbor, the ship fit together
perfectly the first try. The Mark Twain
can carry up to three hundred
passengers and weighs one hundred and
fifty tons. The Mark Twain was the first
paddle wheeler built in the United States
in half a century. The ship was christened
by actress Irene Dumne.

On the night of her maiden voyage, July
13th 1955, four days before
Disneyland's opening, Joe Fowler (the
person in charge of Disneyland's
construction) was doing a last minute
check over the ship, and found Lillian
Disney sweeping her decks. She was
getting ready for her and Walt's 30th
wedding anniversary

The Mark Twain is as  important to
Frontierland, as the Castle is to
Fantasyland. In Robert Olszewski
replica of the Mark Twain, he brings the
true beauty into our homes. The ship is in
its 50th anniversary make over, and
covered in gold. The part of the
miniature that I enjoy, are the little chairs
on the bow of the ship. This is where my
family and I sit when we take a trip
around Tom Sawyer's Island. The green
boilers and red axes bring a realness to
the piece. Take a look at the paddle
wheel, how Bob is able to do this is
amazing to me. I believe the only thing
missing from this miniature are the ducks
swimming in The Rivers of America.
